Jan-Georg Deutsch Scholarship in African History at St Cross College
Saint College Cross has a consistent surprise for Ph.D. students interested in studying for a DPhil in History research degree on any aspect of Global History or African History from an African perspective. The generous scholarship worth £10,000 per annum is tenable at the University of Oxford in October 2018. Only students who list St Cross College as their first choice college on their Graduate Admission application are eligible to apply for the Jan-Georg Deutsch Scholarship.
For students who have not heard yet about St Cross, it is a graduate college of the University of Oxford and home to scholars from a wide range of academic disciplines. What makes the college stand out from other Oxford’s colleges is that it does not have separate common rooms for its Senior and Junior Members. All the college members can use the central common rooms and open seating in Hall. The purpose of this arrangement is that egalitarianism influences and enhances a productive intellectual environment.
Overseas students are more than welcomes at St Cross. The College is diverse with more than 60% of students coming from oversea countries. The College pleads for cultural and language diversity that unfold under one big academic roof. So, students who list St Cross College as their first choice college will not regret their decision.
Coming back to the potential lucky winner of The Jan-Georg Deutsch Scholarship, the recipient will receive, as mentioned above, a scholarship valued at £10,000 per annum tenable for 3 years with College fee liability. Additionally, the recipient will have the possibility to have a room in College accommodation – at the standard rent – for the first year of his/her course.
The scholarship is extremely competitive which means that students should mobilize themselves and submit their applications no later than March 30th 2018. Students should keep in mind that this scholarship is tenable only at St Cross College only. How students can submit their applications? They can find the application form downloaded here https://www.stx.ox.ac.uk/prospective-students/funding-support/jan-georg-deutsch-scholarship-african-history at the bottom of the page.
IMPORTANT NOTE! Applications for the scholarship must be accompanied by, evidently, the complete application form and two references sent to the College directly from the named referees. Also any other additional material which is relevant to support the application can be sent.
