Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Fund Postgraduate Scholarship in Kenya, 2017

Online universities today offer access to education to everyone around the globe as long as they are connected to the internet and have a zest for learning. The share of online universities has risen steadily since couple of years ago, when the first free massive online courses were introduced. The purpose of online universities is mostly to make education available to anyone who seeks it. This trend has taken many faces. Think accredited schools online which have also been appearing to cater to various learning needs and most-importantly to make education ever more accessible to anyone who needs it. Even traditional institutions have decided to jump on the bandwagon of online education by introducing their own programs, degrees, and some established institutions of higher learning even deciding to create their own online university campus.

Today, the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi Fund is offering students, who want to learn on site and pursue a postgraduate scholarship program for the 2017/2018 academic year, a chance to support themselves throughout their studies. The scholarship is designed to cater exclusively to Kenyan students who want to apply at the University of Nairobi. The scholarships are awarded to students interested in acquiring a Master’s scholarship in the university.

The scholarships will help successful candidates cover some of the costs associated with their studies. The scholarships can only be taken by Kenyan candidates.

In order to be consider eligible, the prospective candidate needs to meet a bevy of criteria:

• The candidate must be Kenyan;
• The candidate must have Upper Second Class Honour or a Bachelor Level equivalent;

The question remains then, if traditional institutions will nurture good students to enroll in universities so that they many benefit fully from the academic environment, why would many students opt for online universities instead. Accessibility would be the easiest answer. Indeed, other than monetary concerns, a lot of students also consider additional time-consuming factors such as travelling costs, and associated costs. Still, studying at home may be useful, but students would need a lot of dedication to achieve good results.
