2017 – 2018 Scholarships for International Students in Canada. Part two
As tangled as you may feel for not knowing how your academic future will look like, having the desire to further your studies makes you even more determined. For these kinds of persons with outstanding academic results, Canadian universities open their gates and support them. In our previous article “2017 – 2018 Scholarships for International Students in Canada. Part one” we have shortly presented some of the Canadian scholarships awarded to undergraduate students. In this article we will continue with some of the Canadian scholarships offered to graduate and doctorate international students.
For graduate students
Thesis-based students who undertake full classes in research areas that are strategically important to Alberta are awarded the Alberta Innovations Graduate Student Scholarships. The classes include Information, Nanotechnology, Omics, and Communications Technology. Scholarships are tenable at University of Calgary, University of Alberta, and the University of Lethbridge. If you are interested to apply for the scholarships, you must submit your application at one of the above mentioned universities. Both domestic and international students are eligible to apply. It is important that you, before furthering the admission process, check the admission criteria established by the chosen university.
For doctorate students
The Canadian Government awards the Vanier Canada Graduate scholarships, the 3-year scholarship valued at $50.000 CAD per year. There are up to 167 awards available to Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students who are undertaking a doctoral degree at a chosen Canadian institution. Before submitting the applications, it is important that students have been nominated by a Canadian institution with a quota at which they want to study.
The Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships awards up to 50 doctoral scholarships annually to Canadian students who pursue social science related research and humanities. At the same time, international students can participate and register for this scholarship but only if they are enrolled in a full-time doctoral program at a Canadian university. The worth of the award is $40.000 CAD which covers three years of study. Additionally, students receive $20.000 per year for their travel allowance and research.
